Low-profile winter tires are their own off-rim tier on small and medium vehicles, because the sidewalls need more care on the mounting machine: $90 for a set of four on a small car and $115 on a medium. Prices exclude HST, and a winter changeover takes no deposit online: you settle in the shop.

When to book your winter changeover
The trigger is temperature, not the first snowfall. Once daily highs sit consistently below 7 °C, all-season rubber hardens and loses grip while winter compounds stay flexible and bite into cold, wet, and icy pavement. In Fredericton that threshold usually arrives in mid-to-late October.
Winter tires are not legally mandatory in New Brunswick, and there is no required install date, but most insurers offer a winter-tire discount, and studded tires are permitted only from October 16 through April 30. Book early. October and April are the two busiest stretches of the year for every tire shop in the city, and wait lists stretch into weeks at peak. Reserve a couple of weeks ahead and you lock in a convenient slot instead of getting caught on the wrong tires during the first cold snap. Outside the rush, walk-ins are welcome seven days a week.
Studded tires: what we can and can't do
We can order studded winter tires for you, and we will mount, balance, and install studded tires you already own or bought elsewhere. What we don't do is stud tires: there is no studding service at our shop, so we can't insert studs into studdable tires you bring in.
Studs mechanically bite into glare ice and hard-packed snow, which is a real advantage on untreated rural roads. - How much does a winter tire changeover cost in Fredericton?

- What is a winter tire changeover?
- Taking your all-season or summer set off and putting your winter set on, the seasonal swap most Fredericton drivers do twice a year, in October and again in April. Every wheel comes off, the winter set goes on, and each wheel is torqued to spec. Whether it is quick and cheap or takes longer comes down to one thing: whether your winter tires are already mounted on their own rims.
- How much does it cost to change winter tires if they are not on rims?
- That is an off-rim changeover, from $70, and it includes dismounting the old rubber, mounting the winter tires, balancing every wheel, and installing them. It costs more than the $35 on-rim swap because it is genuinely more work. - How much is a winter changeover for a truck, van or SUV?
- Vehicle size sets the rate and every size is published. For a full set of four, an on-rim winter changeover is $65 on a pickup or full-size SUV, $85 on a full-size van or heavy-duty pickup, and $110 on a super-duty above that. - Do you install studded tires?
- Yes. We can order studded winter tires for you, and we will mount, balance, and install studded tires you have bought elsewhere or already own. New Brunswick prohibits studded tires from May 1 through October 15, which leaves them permitted from October 16 through April 30, so plan the install and the removal around those dates.
- Can you put studs in my studdable tires?
- No: we do not stud tires. There is no studding service at our shop, so we cannot insert studs into studdable tires you bring in. What we can do is order a set that comes factory-studded, or fit studded tires you supply. - When can you put studded tires on in New Brunswick?
- October 16 is the first day and April 30 is the last. The Motor Vehicle Act (RSNB 1973, c. M-17, s. 241(3)(c)) prohibits studded tires during the period beginning on May 1 and ending on October 15, so the permitted stretch is the rest of the year. That prohibition is the one hard legal date in an NB changeover: winter tires themselves are not mandatory in New Brunswick and have no required install date.
- Are snow tires and winter tires the same thing?
- Yes: two names for one product. Both mean a tire built with a softer cold-weather compound and deeper, siped tread, marked with the three-peak mountain snowflake (3PMSF) symbol. The trigger for fitting them is temperature rather than snow: below about 7 degrees C, all-season rubber stiffens and loses grip even on bare, dry pavement.
- Can I get a winter tire change without an appointment?
- Yes, walk-ins are welcome seven days a week and same-day is normal outside the peaks. The exception is the October rush: the first hard cold snap fills every shop in the city, and on those weekends a walk-in can wait a long time. - How far ahead should I book my winter changeover?
- Two weeks before the first cold snap is the sweet spot: realistically, early October.
