Oromocto is a posting town. CFB Gagetown means a steady turnover of families arriving from Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia and further out, and a lot of them arrive having never owned a winter tire. A set of all-seasons that was perfectly sensible in Victoria or southern Ontario is a genuinely different proposition on a New Brunswick January morning.

If you've just been posted in, the two things worth knowing are that New Brunswick has no law compelling winter tires but the province's own driving conditions make them the practical standard, and that the changeover rush here is sharp and predictable: the first hard cold snap in October fills every shop in the region inside a week.

The other half of our Oromocto traffic is simpler: people who already commute into Fredericton for work. If you're driving in anyway, a changeover that takes ten to twenty minutes while you wait is less disruptive than finding a slot at home on a Saturday.

One more thing worth saying plainly, since not every search from Oromocto that lands here is a tire search: we're a tire and rim shop, full stop. Changeovers, flat repairs, balancing, rotations and TPMS sensor work are the whole list. We don't do brake service, oil changes, or engine repair, and we're not trying to be anyone's CFB Gagetown base garage. The Oromocto–Fredericton run is mostly highway, and highway kilometres are the gentlest kind for tread: steady speed, few hard stops. What highway driving is unforgiving about is pressure and balance. An under-inflated tire that you'd never notice around town will run hot and wear its shoulders at 100 km/h, and a wheel that's slightly out of balance turns into a steering-wheel shimmy that gets worse the longer you ignore it.

That's why we balance as part of every changeover rather than charging it as an extra, and it's why the pressure light deserves attention rather than a piece of tape over it.

Winter changes what that commute needs. Route 102 runs along the river the whole way in, and river-adjacent roads tend to hold frost and fog longer than drier ground nearby, sometimes on mornings when the rest of town already looks clear. Highway 7 is the alternative without the river, but either way you're on exposed highway right when all-season rubber starts losing its grip for the season. If you were posted in through the fall or winter, there's a good chance the vehicle still has last spring's all-seasons mounted: get your winter tires on before the October rush rather than finding out how they handle the first hard frost on Route 102.
